Video: https://www.ted.com/talks/daphne_koller_what_we_re_learning_from_online_education?language=en
After watching this TedTalk by Daphne Koller it made me start thinking about the pros and cons of online education. She has amazing points that solidify how effective online education is all around the world. But what are the difficult things about online education? The Masters of Educational Technology at Boise State University is offered completely online. So I pose the following questions: -What are the pros to online education? -What are the cons to online education? -Why did you choose to participate in an online Masters program? Thank you for your input!

I absolutely love online classes. I love that I can do them on my own schedule. I do miss the social interaction between peers that is face to face. I do also love TED talks.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy them as well. Doing classwork in the comfort of my own home is great. However, I don't enjoy feeling lost. A lot of the times when I take online classes I feel like I need more communication to professors to clarify directions.
DeleteI chose Boise State's Master's in Educational Technology program because it was both online and project-oriented. I love taking classes from the comfort of my home--it's so much more efficient than driving to a physical classroom after school and/or on weekends. The time I would have spent in traffic can be dedicated instead to reading, writing, creating and contributing to online discussions. I can teach full time and get a Master's degree while still maintaining some semblance of normalcy! While I'm absolutely thankful that I was able to attend a brick and mortar college during my formative undergraduate years, I'm grateful for the streamlined nature of this online graduate program.
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree with your statement of doing it in the comfort of my own home as well. I can get things done around the house, keep the kids fed and not have to leave. I do struggle sometimes with motivation, and that's when I think maybe a physical classroom would make it easier, but for now this is the right place for me.
