EDTECH537 Discussion of school supplies
Sneak Peek is almost here! In the past I have collected most of my students' supplies and use them as community supplies. I am playing with the idea of allowing students to keep all of their supplies in their desk minus glue and scissors. Last year markers were a big thing! Some were bringing them from home and the students who used my classroom sets never put them back into the box and it became a huge mess. But what would I do for those students who don't have everything some other students have? How do you structure school supplies in your classroom?

Most of my supplies are kept at the side in trays for everyone to share. Kids bring their own stuff as well which I let them keep in pencil cases. Sharing is a big thing as is taking responsibility for the things they bring in. Usually works just fine.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your ideas!
DeleteI buy all of the school supplies for my classroom. Gets really pricey though. I have bins on their tables with pencils, erasers, scissors, markers, crayons and highlighters. The rest of the resources are in bins on our shelves that they can access when they need.
ReplyDeleteWow, I can imagine how expensive that it. Thanks for your input!
DeleteI hate the ruler fight. My kids always bring rulers (which I don't need) and then want to keep then in their desk. I finally made them take them home last year so we could just use the class set of rulers I have. Sometimes it is just easier to have a class set, but I know the kids like to have their own things. It's hard to find a balance.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.. rulers aka swords. :)
DeleteI think I'm going to try something new and let them keep a majority this year.
In our district, there is a "have one, bring one" policy. So if composition books are on the supply list you get two - one for your child and one for another kid. It seems to work. It also seems that, at the elementary level, supplies just get all mashed together anyway! :-)
